Creams for Reducing and Treating Cellulite
Anti-Cellulite Creams explained
Cellulite creams work by plumping the skin, which lifts the dimpled fat cells up to same level (or near to)
the rest of the skin. This creates a smoother texture around the cellulite region, be it
under the thighs, on the buttocks or on top of the belly.
While many cellulite treatment creams and lotions can reduce the "orange-peel" effect,
they are not a miracle cure that will cause them to disappear entirely, at least not by themselves. Because
you see, creams work best when used in
conjuction with cellulite wraps and/or an
cellulite exercise and diet regimen.
The effect of creams is of course temporary, lasting for a few days after you stop applying them.
You want to look for creams and lotions that contain anti-inflammatory ingredients and antioxidants.
Some of the key ingredients you should look for are listed below:
Retinol
a derivative of vitamin A, it improves skin texture by thickening and increasing elasticity of the epidermis,
and boosting circulation to the skin. Retinol penetrates deep into the adipose layer where it may stimulate
collagen production (collagen is an important constituent of connective tissues). When connective tissue is
thusly bolstered, the cellulite becomes diminished. Note that Vitamin A derivatives are destroyed when exposed
to light, so be sure to apply retinol-based creams at night.
Caffeine
a stimulant and a vasodilator -- when applied topically to cellulite it widens the blood vessels in the area.
As more blood circulates into the region (well, it's not much more, but it CAN make a difference) the body
has easier access to the fat cells that contribute to cellulite. When used in conjuction with a
cellulite exercise program, this causes cellulite to burn away even faster.
Shea Butter
nourishes and softens skin so that other ingredients in the cream can
more easily penetrate. If a cream doesn't have shea butter, it's effectiveness will be greatly reduced (so if you
have such a cream, be sure to apply shea butter beforehand).
Horsetail Extract
rich in silica, an essential component of connective tissues. Horsetail is used to restore natural firmness to
the skin and connective tissues just below.
